Camping:: Oregon Coast

This week we bravely took both kids camping at Beverly State Park outside of Newport, with some friends. Man...camping with two kiddos is totally more work! :)

We had a great time with the kids and our friends, but spent a lot of time trying to stay dry from the rain!

I think this was our 3rd trip to the coast this summer and Amelia is really loving the beach or "mocean" aka more ocean!

Living with a 2 yr old

So like many things, I've been meaning to post a little about Amelia and all her 2 year old glory.

Well, to be honest, right after she turned 2 (really before!) she was quite the little monster. So much so, that I really didn't want to write a blog post all about it.

Thankfully though the past few weeks she's settled down a bit, or maybe we've just grown used to her terrible two'ness?

Dont get me wrong, she truly is a wonderful little girl. In fact, she hardly ever shows her terrible two'ness. It was just hard getting used to all the tantrums, random whining, crying and "go aways!" at first. On Mother's Day she promptly told me to "Go Away!" for the first time. Yay motherhood!

Anyways....like I've said I've been trying to post this for months. For some reason it won't let me upload photos, so here is a smattering of her two year old quirkiness in words:
  • She's getting better at playing at the park. Mostly, she just loves to stare at all the other kids. Kinda creepy...kinda awesome. She's totally one to just sit back and watch and learn. She's still hilariously shy and quiet when others are around and then a funny, talkative munchkin while at home.
  • Potty training = evilness. But she's almost got it figured out. At home she is about 99% trained, but has a little trouble when we go places, mostly because we forget to remind her. But it's getting better!
  • Naps = heaven! She easily takes a 2+hr nap every day.
  • We laugh all day at all the clever little things she says. Like "some?" whenever she wants something. Or "more some!" It's really fun just talking to her. She likes to just repeat whatever we say as our last word. Clever at first, but we've caught on by now.
  • She likes going to get ice cream.
  • Her favorite song is of course, "Let It Go" from Frozen. She loves to sing along.
  • She still loves her little brother, but there's been a couple slaps and pushes here or there. She's not being mean, it's just that Henry has started crawling over or reaching for her and her toys. I get it. She still gives him lots of kisses and hugs and calls him Henry Rooooo. She runs right over to him if he's crying. It's sweet.

So we love this sweet girl a whole lot. It's actually a really fun stage that she's in. Sure, there are tantrums here and there, but there are way more hilarious conversations and impressive new skills for us to admire. Especially now that we have Henry it seems like she is such a big girl now. No longer a baby.

Spring/Summer Garden

Of course this seems to be my best gardening year ever and I have nothing to show for it! I've thought once or twice about snapping some harvest pics, but I've got other things to do...like show the girl how to pull up a fresh tasty carrot from the soil. Or furiously pick the green beans before Henry gets too mad at me for not rolling him back over or helping him reach a toy.

But my tomato plants suck. Really. It's a shame because we've had super hot  perfect tomato weather too. And AmeIia loves them. I think they either weren't good transplants or I didn't harden them off properly or they didn't have enough space because my spring garden turned out so well. Whatever.

Henry:: 5 months

This boy is just growing and growing over here. I've slacked a little bit on posting updates and pictures...mostly because we're too busy playing and having fun.

At 5 months:

- he can't keep still. He wants to be everywhere at once. He's definitely getting really close to crawling...more so creeping, I guess you'd call it. He's been getting up on all fours for the past 2 weeks rocking back and forth.
- He starting rolling over back to front just after 4 months and hasn't stopped since. - He can sit up, but isn't too sturdy yet.

- he is such a social, smiling baby. Amelia was and still is much more serious. Henry  is constantly smiling and always wants to be around people. He loves watching Amelia's every move.

- honestly, he's been a terrible sleeper the past month or so. I don't even want to talk about it. It was so good...and now it just sucks. I think we are reaching a turning point though...maybe.

- at 4 months he was in the 90% for height! And I can't remember which % for weight, but it was definitely less then 15%. Long and skinny kid! Super surprising in the height, though, right?

- he's in the stick-everything-in-my-mouth-and-grab-and-rake-everything-towards-me phase. So it's been interesting trying to keep him occupied.

- the best part of the day is waking up and seeing his big cheesy sleepy morning grin. He wakes up super happy and plays/practices his crawling moves in  his crib.

- can't imagine our family without this little guy. Amelia loves him dearly too, which is pretty wonderful.
